Boeing
and Airbus said earlier that China would buy over 2,400
and 1,800 planes respectively over the next 20 years.
Hence, China will become the world’s second largest
aviation market by then. This will require over 30,000
pilots to fly these jetliners. |

Zheng Xiaoweng, Director of China Civil Aviation
Institute said in an interview in April 2008, “China’s
civil aviation market grows by 12% to 14% annually.
Thus, China will require at least 10,000 pilots for the
next five years, and hence the number of pilot shortage
will reach 18,000 by 2015.
